There are no cheats as such. You need the walkthrough to see how puzzles are done.
This said, you will have heard a lot about the game of Pong and those Easter Egg Screens.
Here's how to see them: Pong: On Myst Island, go to the planetarium. Sit in the chair and pull down the star viewer. Enter the date "MARCH 1ST 1978" and for the time, enter whatever the clock tower currently shows. After the viewer finishes locating the coordinates, change the month from "MARCH" to "NOVEMBER". You should see a game of Pong being played in the view window. To control the left paddle, grab the time slider and move it up to make the paddle move up and down to make the paddle go down. If it disappears and you wish to play again, go to the clock tower and change the time. Then repeat the steps to make the Pong game appear with the new time in place of the old. Note: 1 March 1978 was the day Atari announced they had merged with Time Warner. November was the last production month of the Pong video game. Easter Egg Screens: Open the CD-ROM with Windows Explorer and go to the "scn/maps" folder. Note the "cyanegg" and "huevo" movies. "huevo" is "egg" in Spanish. The "cyan" file features a series of photographs of the creators and their families. The "huevo" file features mysterious static. Try using a photo editing program to layer the static from Huevo.avi. At this time, it is not known what exact Crystal settings are needed to successfully accessed these screens legally from within the game. If anyone can help me I'd be really appreciative. Here is a stunning re-make of the original MYST game. The slogan on the box proclaims: The Adventure Becomes Real...and given the re-make is in sparkling proper 3D, it does!!
As soon as you've finished linking to the Island of MYST everything just bursts into full steroephonic life. You are suddenly aware that the waves at the dock are quite choppy, clouds are scudding across the sky, the butterflies are flitting about between very realistic pine trees and you have total ease of 360 degree movement in all directions. As in the original game you can't go everywhere you might like to [swimming in the water for instance - I heard somewhere that it had a very high acid content so you would die in any case], and as in the previous version, you can't actually die in MYST. More fun updates include days that cycle through into breathtakingly beautiful purple nights [when those butterflies sleep and crickets can be heard noisily harmonizing]. Weather conditions on the other Ages is similarly fascinating. The most alarming is on the Stoneship Age, where a full scale thunder and lightning storm is in progress. All the puzzles are suddenly easier to understand and achieve and each of the Ages are far more vivid and fun to explore and enjoy in their own right. On a slightly sad note, just behind the log cabin and in line with the Planetarium on MYST Island there is a small grave stone with the simple inscription "Ti'ana". She was Atrus's Earth grandmother and it was she and Atrus' wife Catherine who jointly wrote the Age of MYST. Ti'ana was formally called Anna. She lived at a place in Mexico known as The Cleft. This location now features as your starting point in URU: Ages Beyond Myst. It was Anna who first discovered the way into the hidden depths of the D'ni world and you can read all about her adventures and how she came to change her name to Ti'ana in the first of the MYST books The Book Of Ti'ana. RealMYST also includes one small, quite beautiful extra Age, called Rime. A particular puzzle element at this new Age allows the most curious of Adventurers small, badly focused glimpses of what is now known to be URU but just how to see these images legally in the game seems to be a very closely guarded secret...even now!!! Out of interest URU uses the same engine as realMYST but it has been tweaked and fine-tuned to perform even better. All in all, I'd say that this re-make is a resounding success, and I love loading it up and playing it again and again... Thanks to fellow realMYST fan Sara I've found that I can even play my original copy of realMYST on my newer Windows XP computer. Thanks Sara!! |
