Information Within the visually awe-inspiring world of MYST, a gripping family drama will slowly unfold. In MYST IV: Revelation, players finally learn the fate of Sirrus and Achenar, sons of Atrus and Catherine and the two villains first introduced in the original MYST.

The brothers have remained trapped in separate prison worlds, abandoned by their father for crimes they had committed. Players are engaged in uncovering the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Yeesha, younger sister of the pair, as she dared to venture deep inside the intense worlds of the villainous brothers. Understanding their motives is key to the success of the investigation and will be a true "revelation."

My copy of Revelation arrived yesterday. Long story there ...

I ordered the Limited Collectors edition but Amazon sent the ordinary game.

I sent it back but they said the limited edition isn't currently available to them in the UK.

I tried to order it direct from Ubi Soft in France but again it wasn't available so I ended up ordering the ordinary game instead and it arrived yesterday!!

I have to say I wasn't sure I would like it after seeing some of the screens, watching the maker's over-confident and triumphal vidoes and then playing the distinctly fuzzy demo. To me it all looked way too French to fit in with what Rand Miller and Cyan have so far achieved.

However, I got started last night and was just blown away !!!

Yeesha is very much part of the action at the start of the game and given you are a well trusted family friend, when you arrive at Tomahna, Atrus thinks nothing of asking you to assist him with something - even before he shows you to your room or offers you a beverage !!

To actually talk with Yeesha and then interact directly with Atrus in order to achieve something is amazing, and a perfect way to draw you straight into the centre of the plot. Things progress at a fast pace from there. Your first puzzle is learning how to switch on the main power machine and the turn of events as a result are pure magic.

I've progressed from there - but that's all I'm prepared to disclose for now. Basically, now I've played a lot of Revelation now and am totally happy with the feel and look of the game.

WARNING !!
My UK copy of the DVD states that this game is suitable of ages 7+. In my opinion it is not.

I have no wish to disclose large parts of the gameplay but when you start to explore the rainforest jungle on Haven you are subjected to two realistic videos that pull no punches.

One is of an animal being rendered paralysed having been poisoned and the other is of an animal being chased, killed and then eaten. The gamer sees no blood and these are not scenes of gratuitous violence but even at my age I have found, because of the totally realistic nature of this game and my inherent love of wild birds and animals, I have been profoundly upset by these two incidents. It is for this reason that I think gamers, particularly parents of younger children, should view these couple of scenes alone before allowing children as young as seven to play them. Either that, or be ready for a serious reality check concerning the true nature of Life and Death.

In short, while I realise these videos are so placed in order to convince the gamer that Haven can be as hostile as it is beautiful, I'm absolutely convinced that Rand Miller would definitely never have included such scenes in any MYST or Uru game, despite similar descriptions appearing in some of the MYST books.

Another small downside is that while Tomahna is littered with scores of books, nowhere neer enough of them can actually be opened or read unless they relate directly to the plot. for me this is a great shame.

All the puzzles are totally logical and help progress the plot. Cut scenes and videos are beautiful and perfectly in balance. Tomahna and the other Ages are all teeming with wildlife, swaying plants and rustling trees, as well as the moving water far below. All very lush and a total feast for the eyes and ears.

This is how gaming escapism should be. I really love returning. Brilliant stuff ... Full marks Team Revelation !!!
