| Information |
Bitter revenge is the basis for Myst III: Exile. This game, created by Presto Studios, who have since gone into liquidation [which is a great shame given that EXILE won Best Adventure Game for 2000], chronologically should be played after both MYST [or realMYST], and RIVEN.
EXILE introduces a brand new adversary called Saavedro played by Academy Award nominee Brad Dourif [One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest]. His home world, written a long time ago by Atrus and called Narayan, was destroyed by Sirrus and Achenar, the dysfunctional sons of Atrus and Catherine, whom players will remember encountering in MYST. Saavedro has been hiding out on J'nanin and the other connected Teaching Ages originally created by Atrus as puzzles for his sons in an effort to teach them good Age Writing techniques through a process of trial and error. Saavedro has been festering in his grief and anger, biding his time to exact revenge. Inadvertently, Atrus himself has now provided that chance. He and Catherine have established contact with the D'ni people and they hope to assist the civilization in their restoration to full potential by writing a stable Age for the D'ni to use as a temporary home to work from. As the game starts, Atrus has recently finished writing this new Age, called Releeshahn but Saavedro manages to steal the only linking book to it, which he intends to hold as randsome in order to exact his revenge. Once again, as the intrepid explorer who helped Atrus in his quest to free Catherine from her perils in RIVEN, you must track the villain through several surrealistic Ages, navigating brain-teasing puzzles in order to uncover the reasons behind Saavedro's terrible plan. Only then can disaster be averted, and the fate of thousands of D'ni survivors be ultimately determined. |
