| Information |
Released on 24 September 94, this point-and-click adventure quest was my second game...and
the one that hooked me totally on gaming. I played it non-stop for a week. Since its release MYST has sold more copies worldwide than any other computer game and has become the benchmark standard for all point and click, photo-realistic adventure games. MYST remains one of my all time favourites. It is constantly on my computer even when other games are removed. These days ofcourse I vastly prefer to play realMYST, the greatly enhanced 3D version of the original. Here is a basic tale of a highly dysfunctional family. Deception, corruption and greed all play their part. Atrus, the father, is pitted against his two sons Sirrus and Achenar...but who is telling you the truth, who can you believe or trust on the Island of MYST? That is for you to decide as you complete the puzzles and unwind the many secrets of this hauntingly beautiful environment. Begin your quest in the MYST Island library - there are lots of journals to read and information to jot down - and when the answers finally start to flow, you will be transported to other magical worlds, [called Ages in this realm]. The concept, with music specially written by Robyn Miller, the graphics, attention to detail and point-and-click gameplay are all lush and really fabulous. Rather than "beat" MYST in two hours flat, you are encouraged to relax into and thoroughly enjoy the environment. Just Being There is more than half the enjoyment and it's for this reason I have returned, time and time again. Some people have said that the denouement is rather a let down. In fact MYST acts as an excellent prelude to the breathtaking sequel RIVEN. |
